JAMB Warns Candidates Against Patronizing Fraudulent Websites

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Thursday in Abuja, lamented over the activities of some fraudsters using fake websites to dupe unsuspecting public.
According to Prof. Ish-aq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive in a statement, one of such websites www.askjamb.com is using its platforms to solicit payments for malpractice services in the forthcoming 2017 UTME.
He added that the website had continued to advertise help for candidates with JAMB 2017 live questions and planned malpractice offers to candidates including help within the examination hall.
He, called on the relevant authorities to ensure that www.askjamb.com and its likes are brought down and the perpetrators brought to justice.
He mentioned that the board earlier in January took note of such fraudulent websites and worked with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to suspend the domain of some of the websites.
He thanked NITDA for taking swift action, but added that there was still much to be done as the some of the suspected websites are still active. This includes www.jambresults.org.ng, www.askjamb.com and www.jamborgng.info

UI Announce Peer Assistant Study Session (PASS) 2016/2017

PASS is a student-led, student-focused approach to learning support which empowers students to take control of their own learning under the guidance of senior students who have previously and successfully completed the targeted course. PASS derives from an American model called ‘Supplemental Instruction’ (SI) which originated at the University of Kansas-City, Missouri in the 70’s.
The Supplemental Instruction (SI) and its other variants – Peer Assisted Study Support (PASS), Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) and Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) run in more than 1500 institutions and 30 countries worldwide. PASS program which was approved at the senate of the University of Ibadan on 16 January 2017, is to target traditionally difficult courses and provide regularly scheduled peer facilitated study sessions.
Traditionally difficult courses are those with high failure rates or less than 30% having between 5 and 7 points. The program targets challenging courses that, over time, have demonstrated their difficulty regardless of the lecturer(s) who teach the course, or the material used. To begin with, we have identified CHE 157, MAT 121 and PHY 114.
PASS are facilitated by PASS leaders, who are students who have previously completed the targeted course, and received a minimum of 65%. During the study sessions, the PASS leaders will facilitate collaborative study and group study strategies and techniques specific to the course.
The Goal of PASS is to assist students in becoming independent learners, while the objectives include:
Increasing the number of students in the targeted course who receive a grade of 5 points or better
To reduce failure rates to less than 10%.
Role of the PASS Leader:
PASS leaders facilitate the study sessions and act as a liaison between the lecturer(s) of the targeted course, and the students enrolled in the targeted course. The PASS Leader is to serve as a “model student” who shows how successful students think about and process the course content consistently.
(S)he displays effective behavior and then transfers the knowledge and information obtained to the subsequent study sessions. The role of the leader is to provide structure to the study session, not to re-lecture or introduce new material. The PASS leaders work with students over the course of the semester to integrate the content they are being taught, with appropriate and effective study skills.
The PASS leader is expected to do the following:
· Organize and facilitate one or two 1- hour study session(s) per week
· Meet once a week for an hour each with the partnering lecturer for feedback, strategic planning, and professional development
· Meet/Interact at least once a week the PASS coordinator and other leaders for support, supervision and training’s.
· Attend mandatory training session at the beginning of the session
· Have at least 6 points in the targeted course and a CGPA of 5 points at the end of 2015/16 session.
PASS leaders are rewarded at the end of the semester with certification and payment.
Only students who are in 200 and 300 levels during the 2016/17 session are eligible.

In 2017, because it’s the year of blessings, we’re launching a program with support from Facebook to deliver business and digital marketing training to 2000+ entrepreneurs across Nigeria. This program is being supported by Facebook.
To do this we’ll be recruiting 15 rock stars who’ll become SLA certified – Boost your Business trainers and work with us to deliver an exceptional training program. Interested?
Well damn.. thank you boo!
Here’s the process
1. Send in your application – the link is at the bottom of this page
2. If selected, you’ll be invited for an intensive 2-day training courtesy of She Leads Africa and Facebook on March 18-19 in Lagos, Nigeria. Over these 2 days, you’ll be trained on:
– How to use Facebook products to grow a business
– Finding your presentation style
– Business strategy frameworks
PS If you don’t live in Lagos, we will cover your flights and accommodation for the Train the Trainer program.
3. Now you’ll be ready to spread your knowledge and help people do amazing things. And we’re gonna put you straight to work helping us train 2000+ entrepreneurs and professionals.
4. The SLA team will organize most of the logistics behind the trainings. We’ll find the space, make sure there are chairs and pray the folks at NEPA come through. We’ll work with you to spread the word, make sure the training is well attended and have someone there on the day to help you set up. And then it’s over to you to wow the audiences with your expertise.
5. Please note that trainings will run between April and September.
Why would you do this?
If some of the traits below sound like you, then apply now now.

2. You’ve always been interested in mentoring and helping people develop new skills

FAQs
Do I need to be a digital marketing expert to apply?
No. We’ll be delivering business as well as digital marketing training so we’re excited to have trainers from a range of backgrounds. That said, candidates with some sort of background or understanding of digital marketing (even if it’s building up your own businesses online community!) are preferred.
I don’t live in one of your target cities, can I still apply?
Unfortunately not. We hope to expand to other cities and countries soon but for now you must reside in Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, Kaduna or Port Harcourt City in Nigeria.
I’m not a woman, can I still apply?
Yes, please do! This opportunity is open to everyone.
What will my schedule look like?
After we get you trained, you’ll work out a schedule with the SLA program coordinator. Trainings will run between the April 23rd and August 30th (~4 months). You’ll be required to lead 2 – 5 trainings during this period. For most trainers, you’ll lead a maximum of 1/2 trainings a month. We cannot give you exact dates for all the trainings, that said, if selected, we’ll work with you to find a schedule that best fits your calendar
How many entrepreneurs will I train?

7 Tips Students Need to Succeed in the University

The University can be a very challenging endeavour. Between choosing a career path, studying, passing exams and keeping a personal life, you’ll need new skills to survive– for now and life after university. Below are the tips that can help you succeed as a student.
1. Have an Electronic Devices
The need or use of electronic devices in the university can never be over emphasised. Whether you’re attending class on campus or obtaining an education through online study, the right technology can help streamline the learning process. In addition to a quality computer and mobile device, it’s smart to brush up on the basic software programs you’ll use regularly in class.
2. Learn How to Budget Your Money and time
As a university student, you will need to learn how to manage your time and finances. It’s important to remember that you are spending both time and money on your education.Try setting specific times for school work when you know you are free to focus. Mark up calendars for assignment due dates, create agendas and carry to-do lists. If you need help sticking to your respective budget, try to formulate a strict spending plan, and stick to it.
3. Meet People and Build Relationships
Get to know your professors and peers. If your class is online, make a point to engage in online discussions. If you see teachers and fellow students in person, ask them to have a drink or lunch with you. Many institutions allow you to connect to instructors and classmates through social media. Leverage all these mediums to build relationships. Doing this allows you to create lifelong connections and can make your learning experience more pleasurable.
4. Be Resourceful
In order to access the material you need for different course work, you’ll need to become comfortable with your school’s student services, like libraries, and tutoring. Leveraging student resources is a great skill you need to succeed.
5. Know how to Get Things Done
Procrastination can be a common practice for students. As a university student, you will have deadlines, so you have to learn how to prioritize, sit down and get things done. Try writing a short list of everything you need to accomplish, for that day, week, semester or quarter. Crossing tasks off this list will not only be rewarding, but will help you gauge how much of a workload you can handle. Also remember to always have a backup plan so nothing stops you from meeting deadlines.
6. Cultivate A Positive Attitude
Getting a not-so-great grade on an exam or paper is never fun. But one thing to remember is that a bad grade is never the end of the world. Even when class work is difficult, it’s important to keep in perspective that learning is inherently difficult. In order to truly gain an impressive, valuable education, you will need to test yourself. Stay focused on the end goal of what you’re working so hard to accomplish, there is always going to be small bumps along the way.
7. Find Time to Relax
De-stressing is just as important as focusing. Set a clear boundary in your home for work time and play time. Don’t let social media, television, pastimes, or socializing interfere with school work. Dedicate time each week to relax and enjoy. Try to give your brain a break. Although it may be easy to lose sight of, the best way to be a happy student is to be a healthy, well-rounded person.
